Midweek Music: Baby's All Right
by the staff of Baby's All Right
This week for Midweek Music we asked our friends and staff of the Brooklyn bar and music venue, Baby's All Right, to hook us up with some tunes.
Defining Newness is tricky - now more than ever, when the half-lives of our cultural contributions are directly correlated with those of their respective Instagram posts. Further, determining the merits of that which is New is quite a bit more difficult, when the line between expertise and opinion is no more than the cost of a domain and some followers. But it's not all bad. In fact, it's good. With so much happening so fast, there’s little time for perspective. Thoughts and feelings are spontaneous. The Stream. The present has never been more, well, Present. These are some of the most organic and genuine moments in life. We’ve all been there. The first time is often the best. The first cup of coffee of the day, the first kiss with a lover, the first spin through a record. You feel it before you know it. It's a perpetual state of deja vu, and the constant struggle to make it deja entendu. In a world where what is New is held on a pedestal simply for being that, it’s fun to try and put a finger on that which is New but also lasting. To try and predict, or rather, make your own future by understanding the past and present. The record that will be old but never trapped in the time in which it was created, the kiss that you’ll want again and again. This is what we try to do with our Baby. We’ve assembled songs, isolated from genre and popularity, that make us feel good. Because that’s what it’s All about. And at the end of the day, it's the only thing you can really rely on. What feels Right.
