Anytime we get to working on new music, we live off playlists we make that sum up where our ears have been. This playlist is a mix of new stuff we’ve discovered, and old songs that have been influential for many years. This one includes a mix of different artists from different time periods — from Autechre, to Carole King, to Anderson .Pakk. For us, it’s all about finding the thread. A personal highlight is Debbie Jacobs’ electrifying disco anthem, “Don’t You Want My Love” which, arguably, has the most lively string section of all time. There’s also Madison McFerrin’s “ No Time To Lose” which only uses a few handclaps and a cappella vocals — that one is gold. Then there’s Q Lazzarus’s “Goodbye Horses,” popularized by the film ‘Silence Of The Lambs,’ and Christian Scott’s alt-rock-jazz fusion instrumental “New New Orleans” which is definitely a mind tripper. Hope this takes you somewhere.
