Midweek Music: Soundtrack of my Quarantine Screenplay
By Kaitlin Heins
The first CD I bought from Sam Goody was the Shrek soundtrack. It's the only compilation that could prioritize both Smash Mouth and Hallelujah in the same 90 min of music. I've always loved soundtracks. It's like reliving the movie over and over again. I rediscover the scenes I loved and the moments that broke my heart. Music that shouldn't be together suddenly tells a story. I find songs that I normally would ignore on a discover weekly playlist. Songs that would be obvious choice as a first dance at an instagram influencer's wedding suddenly aren't embarrassing. Watching Almost Famous, I skipped over Tiny Dancer and told myself I was a golden god as The Cover of The Rolling Stone graced my top songs of 2014. Soundtracks are part of the reason I fall in love with fictional people. It feels like the characters made mixtapes for me. I convince myself that these people are my friends because we both love Jay and the Americans and Action Bronson equally.
With nothing but time to drown in tv, I created a six hour playlist of the best music from what I have been watching. It's the soundtrack of my quarantine screenplay.
