A Really F*kcing Awesome Band From Philadelphia

BY DAVID J WEINER

I ordered 4 beers at a soul-food spot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It turned out the whole band was underage which was hard for me to believe after meeting Philadelphia's old-soul storytellers, RFA. Their name no longer stands for 'Really Fast Automobiles,' they said they grew out of that. As of now the adopted name, 'Really Fucking Awesome' has been acting as a comical placeholder. The band consists of Dan Cousart (vocals/guitar), Alec Powell (drums), Christian Turzo (guitar) and Brendan McHale (bass by necessity), a group of friends with obvious personal and musical chemistry.

We hit up a vintage store to pick up some new digs for their show they were playing that night. A couple of members scored some shoes and the whole band got suited up in matching button-down shirts.

The group is about to head out on tour this week, starting at Fat Baby on November 4, in NYC. They left us with a little road playlist comprised of their favorite tracks by bands from their home city of Philadelphia.

Take a listen to the music that keeps RFA moving on the road and check out their website for tour dates.
