Take Notes: Senior Year at SXSW 2019

Year four of SXSW. Senior year? More experienced and seasoned than the last three. More confident maneuvering the streets of Austin. We now know the secret spots to get the best tacos that isn’t Torchy’s. We can even drive ourselves around (on electric scooters) and throw a house party at Pearl St. with all our friends in the process. New favorites Haiku Hands was voted “Life of the Party”, Puma Blue was crowned “Biggest Flirt”, and Chai was dubbed “Best Dressed.” We even pulled off a stellar senior prank. One month before coming to Austin we met a man who had attended SXSW twenty years in a row. One can only imagine what we’ll know by then. Check below for a recap of our trip, this is how we wish our real senior yearbook had looked.

We arrived late Wednesday afternoon. Natalie was smart and flew down. Rachel left Tuesday morning at the crack of dawn to drive down for two days straight with Native Sun. Here’s the bands’ lovely window arrangement.

Claud

We featured Claud over the summer when they still went by the name Toast. As their signature self, they performed at our SXSW showcase. Follow them on Instagram and Facebook.

Beshken

Now with a partner in crime known as Jose, Ben Shirken aka Beshken brought techno to a whole new level, bringing soulful organic sounds that filled the backyard of Pearl St Co Op. Transport your soul with their new tunes by keeping up with him on Instagram and Facebook.

We kept running into Emily (of Slow Pulp) and Brandon (of Vundabar) so the only answer was to pull a paparazzi in the middle of Red River St.

Uma Bloo

Now with a full band, Molly Madden of Uma Bloo breaks your heart just to sew it back up again. Follow her on Instagram and Facebook to heal your emotions.

Had heard the name Haiku Hands around SXSW, but didn’t expect the group to start a mosh pit in the middle of Hotel Vegas with their club bangers. Highly recommend.

Blu Detiger

2019 has been Blu Detiger's year. In the past few months she’s released two singles and has been on tour with The Knocks. SXSW was just the cherry on top. Closing out the party, she literally drew everyone out of their rooms to dance. If you like funk, follow her on Instagram and Facebook.
