Take Notes: Senior Year at SXSW 2019
Year four of SXSW. Senior year? More experienced and seasoned than the last three. More confident maneuvering the streets of Austin. We now know the secret spots to get the best tacos that isn’t Torchy’s. We can even drive ourselves around (on electric scooters) and throw a house party at Pearl St. with all our friends in the process. New favorites Haiku Hands was voted “Life of the Party”, Puma Blue was crowned “Biggest Flirt”, and Chai was dubbed “Best Dressed.” We even pulled off a stellar senior prank. One month before coming to Austin we met a man who had attended SXSW twenty years in a row. One can only imagine what we’ll know by then. Check below for a recap of our trip, this is how we wish our real senior yearbook had looked.
We arrived late Wednesday afternoon. Natalie was smart and flew down. Rachel left Tuesday morning at the crack of dawn to drive down for two days straight with Native Sun. Here’s the bands’ lovely window arrangement.
Shared a house with half of the Native Sun boys and Kelsey which included hot gossip sessions and freezing their underwear.
Danny with his frozen underwear (courtesy of Kelsey) shaped like a heart (courtesy of Alexis).
The setup for our showcase at Pearl St. Co-op. Love kegs.
Slow Pulp glowing like angels as they play their set at Pearl St.
We kept running into Emily (of Slow Pulp) and Brandon (of Vundabar) so the only answer was to pull a paparazzi in the middle of Red River St.
Molly giving us all the glam at Hotel Vegas.
Leopard, fauna, panel combo giving us all the glam.
Mo, Danny, and Alexis hanging out before their set.
Had heard the name Haiku Hands around SXSW, but didn’t expect the group to start a mosh pit in the middle of Hotel Vegas with their club bangers. Highly recommend.
Mo and Jake of Native Sun serving best friend looks.
Andrea of, newly minted Brooklyn band, Dropper.
Photographers Emily Quirk and Kelsey Wagner keeping their eye out for the best bands in town. One of their favorites was London’s Warmduscher.
